In last Sunday’s Season 8 opener, ‘Winterfell’, it was revealed what Bronn’s final season story arch would consist of. Cersei, being the shrewish she-devil that she is, gave Bronn the very same crossbow that Tyrion used to kill his father way back in the Season 4 finale and told him that if Tyrion and Jaime survived the war against the army of the dead, to make sure they didn’t survive their return to the Red Keep.

Surely, despite the promise of owning his own castle, Bronn won’t resort to killing his two best friends? The thing is, Game Of Thrones is all about poetic justice and judging by previous character deaths, things don’t look too good for Tyrion.

Let’s start with Ned Stark. In the very first episode of Game of Thrones, a deserter of the Night’s Watch arrives in Winterfell, and Ned Stark beheads him. 8 episodes later, Ned is beheaded for treason.

In season 3, Roose Bolton delivers the final blow to Robb Stark by stabbing him in the heart. In the sixth season, his son Ramsay does the same to his father. During the same event, Walder Frey orders one of his men to slice the throat of Catalyn Stark. What happens to Walder Frey in season 7? Arya slices his throat in revenge.

In season 4, episode 2; Joffrey is poisoned by Olenna Tyrell. A year later, she is poisoned by Jaime. Also in Season 4, Ygritte kills Olly’s parents with an arrow, and he returns the favour in season 4’s ‘The Watchers Of The Wall’. Notice a pattern here?

I’ll carry on; Lysa Arryn was killed via the moon door she executed many people through, Littlefinger betrayed Ned with a knife to his throat, with Arya killing him in the same way.

So does this mean the end for Tyrion? Jaime may escape the crossbow fate (but surely there are other fate’s that may mark the end for him – being pushed out of a window, perhaps?) but if this pattern is to continue in Game of Thrones, the cruel irony of Tyrion dying by the same crossbow that killed his father (and by the hand of his best friend, no less) is something I can totally see the writers of Game of Thrones doing.
