BEST?: Sonic Movie To Be Revamped

So after the overwhelmingly negative reception to the Sonic The Hedgehog trailer, director Jeff Fowler has announced via Twitter that they are going to go back to the drawing board and redesign the character. This is unheard of in Hollywood and is a very rare, brave move, especially with only 5 months until the films release. Will this help the overall movie’s quality? I’m not so sure, but it’s a step in the right direction.

WORST: RIP Peter Mahew

Unfortunately, death is a part of life, but it’s still devastating news to hear of someone as beloved as Peter Mayhew passing away, the day before Star Wars Day (May the 4th) no less. He managed to turn a walking carpet into one of the most cherished characters in the Star Wars universe, and just like Stan Lee with Avengers: Endgame, it’s a damn shame he’ll never get to see the final chapter of the Star Wars saga. RIP big man, you will be missed.

WORST: Game Of Thrones – Season 8

Let’s not beat around the bush, there were some great moments in the final season of Game Thrones. But while the final episode had it’s moments, there were some baffling storytelling decisions that have perhaps tarnished the entire series. Unfortunately, some of it was comically bad. Bran became the new King of Westeros. Whilst he might be able to see things from both the future and the past, who in their right mind would make him a King The series ended with Jon Snow, Tormund and a bunch of wildlings heading beyond the wall. Why exactly? Have I missed something? The white walkers are no more, so why is the Night’s Watch still a thing?

Who was the Prince that was Promised, aka Azor Ahai? Why did the Night King want Bran? Why did we watch for 8 seasons only to never find out what he had planned once he had killed Bran? Why were we supposed to care?

The Jon and Daenerys stuff, I was fine with. But everything after that was complete tosh. Anyway, it’s been a few weeks since the show finished and I’ve learned to get over it. Still, one can only wonder what could have been.

BEST: Detective Pikachu

While giving the film a ‘best’ is perhaps a bit much, it’s still nice to know that the first Pokemon movie isn’t a complete disaster, with some calling it the best video game movie ever made (faint praise, I know, but still). I’ve yet to see it personally because as much as I enjoy the mini games on Pokemon Stadium, I’m not a die hard Pokemon fan. I’m happy to wait for a rainy Sunday afternoon when it pops up on Channel 4.

BEST: Chernobyl

Writing ‘BEST: Chernobyl’ is not something I thought I’d be writing any time soon, seeing as the events of the Chernobyl disaster were hardly the best thing ever, but the show based on the events is so darned good that it needs to be mentioned. Also, it’s only 5 episodes long! I can handle 5 episodes. That’s a good amount. Take note, The Walking Dead!

BEST: Slam Dunk Festival

A personal ‘best’ here, as I got to go to the Slam Dunk Festival in Hatfield a line up of NOFX, Bad Religion, Less Than Jake, The Get Up Kids, Anti-Flag, Lagwagon, Millencolin, The Menzingers and many many more. Possibly the best line up for a festival ever? For me personally it is. It was a messy one, I think I’ll just leave it there.

And there we have it. What will June have for us in the world of entertainment? Join me in a month when I look back at June 2019!
